Influence of gama-phase in duplex steel welded joint on resistance to abrasion and scratching
Duplex steels, due to their extraordinary combination of mechanical and anti-corrosion properties, are widely used in various fields of application. By expanding the scope of application, apart from mechanical and anti-corrosion properties, the resistance of duplex steel to various forms of wear is becoming increasingly important. These properties are consequence of specific structure composed of ferrite and austenite in equal volume shares. If this balanced relation is disturbed, and if in microstructure appear gama-phase precipitants, which can realistically be expected, e.g. by welding, then the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance are damaged. The experimental part of the work established the influence of appearance and increase of gama-phase volume shares on resistance to abrasion wear and to the scratching of duplex steel, grade Wst.-Nr. 1.4462 (X2CrNiMoN 22 5 3). The specimens have been annealed at 800º ; ; C over the period of: 1, 2 and 3 hours. The microstructure of the specimens was qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed, micro- and macro hardness were tested, and also resistance to abrasion wear and to scratching. The obtained results indicate significant influence of the σ -phase to abrasion and scratching resistance.
