Thermal and UV-Degradation of Modified Impact-Resistant Polystyrene
A commercial blended impact-resistant polystyrene, PS-HI, wasinvestigated. It was modified withmethacrylate/butadiene/styrene, MBS, in the amounts of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 wt.% and stabilised with the antioxidant Irganox 245.Films of 300 um tickness were thermally treated at 100 C for 7, 14, 21, 28 and 35 days. Colour changes of dumbbells were measuredon a Data Color 3890 apparatus, showing a change from the whiteto the yellow area besause of the formation of double bonds.Measurements of carbonyl and hydroxyl groups, as well aspolybutadiene unsaturation absorbance were made by IRspectrophotometer.
