Examination of precipitation of magnesium hydroxide in seawater
The purpose of this research was to determine the optimum conditions for obtaining magnesium hydroxide from seawater with dolomite lime used as the precipitation agent. The settling rate of magnesium hydroxide in seawater was examined for different degrees of completeness of precipitation and for different quantities of the A-130 flocculant which must be added. The dependences obtained were described by appropriate analytical expressions. It has been noted that incomplete precipitation of magnesium hydroxide from seawater appreciably increased the rate of sedimentation of magnesium hydroxide. At a precipitation of 80 percentage, the capacity of the thickener increased by 71 percentage in relation to complete precipitation. Calculations were made according to Kynchs theory.
