Human Papillomavirus infection in male sexual partner of women with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia

Human papillomaviruses (HPV) are one of the most common causes of sexually transmitted infection. Material and methods: we studied 90 asymtomatic and 90 men with genital warts whose partner had cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) grade 1-3 which was diagnosed by Papa smear. Exfoliated cells were taken from clinical evident lesions (wart), and from the predilections sitec in asymptomatic males and analyzed by Digene Hybrid Capture method for the presence of HPV DNA: The peniscopy with previous use of 5% acetic acid was performed in 90 asympthomatic male sexual partners. In 30 selected patients, who had negative HPV genotypization findings using Hybrid Capture II method, the INNO-LiPA method was performed. Results: Positive HPV was found in 55 (57, 9%) men with genital warts and in 40 (42, 1%) asymptomatic men group. Out od 90 asymtomatic men, 63 (70%) had positive peniscopy. Men whose partners had CIN III had the highest number of positive peniscopy finding. Concordance between peniscopy findings and findings from HPV genotypisation using Digene Hybrid Capture II method was found in 59% (65, 6%) patients. Conclusion: Early diasgnosis and treatment of HPV infections in man is potential benefit besauce their eradication can reduce rhe viral reservoir and as the result of that the incidence of CIN, in situ carcinoma and invasive cervical carcinoma can be reduced.
