Synthesis, conformational properties and enentioselectivity of Rh(I) complexes of diphopherines derived from d-glucose and D-galactose
Starting from D-glucose and D-galactose two dimesylates are prepared and converted into diphosphines 3 and 5. Surprisingly, the reactivity of 1 and 2 towards diphenylphosphine anion, a sterically crowded nucleophile, was quite different ; the main product from 1 was "anzi-Saytzeff" elimination product 4. Conformational analysis, based on CD spectra of dibenzoate congeners of 1 and 2, explains these results.
