Podjedinice glikoproteinskih hormona u nefunkcionalnim adenomima hipofize.
The concentrations of luteinizing hormone alpha and beta subunits were measured in the sera of 33 patients with nonfunctioning pituitary adenomas (NFPA) and in 9 patients also in the cell culture media. LH-beta was measured by an in house method. Three out of 33 patients(9%) had elevated concentration of alpha subunit while LH-beta concentrations were not different than those in controls. In TRH test 18/33 patients (54.5%) had a significant increase in response of alpha-subunit and 13/33 a significant response of LH-beta. In vitro, 8/9 adenomas released alpha.subunit and 6/9 released LH-beta into the cell culture media. We got significant correlations between alpha-subunit release in vivo and in vitro and between alpha-subunit and LH-beta release in vitro and their responses in TRH test. In 7 patients with TRH test performed also after the surgery, the responses of LH-beta were significantly lower. By earlier identification of patients with NFPA the control of tumor growth might be improved. Subunit responses to TRH may also serve as a marker of treatment efficiency.
