A natural approach to plasticity problems
The natural factor method is applied in this paper in solving the plasticity problems. It is technique of direct construction of the factorised form of the element and system stiffness matrices, i.e. element and system natural factor, from their natural stiffness root. The sensitivity of the system natural factor matrix is studied using singular value decomposition and it is shown that it is better conditioned then system stiffness matrix. The numerical efforts in data handling and memory requirements during solution phase performed over system natural factor matrix involving classical approach based on Givens rotations and frontal approach based on RT decomposition are discussed. Numerical error growth with increasing condition number of system stiffness matrix is compared for finite element and natural factor approach on simple example. Application of the natural factor method to plasticity problems is presented from the algorithmic point of view.
