Magnetic characterization of some hyperstoichiometric ZrCr2-based alloys and their hydrides
The hyperstoichiometric ZrCr2-based alloys of the composition ZrCr2T0.8 (T=Fe, Co, Ni) were prepared and their crystallographic and magnetic properties were studied. It was found that the hexagonal crystal structure of binary ZrCr2 is preserved in the ternary region and that all alloys are paramagnetic but with a ferromagnetic contribution to the total magnetization. The observed ferromagnetism presents only a small fraction of the added amount of ferromagnetic metal (the highest value of 0.7 at.% is found for the nickel-containing alloy). This clearly indicates that the ferromagnetic metals are completely incorporated in the crystal structure of ZrCr2. Uptake of hydrogen enhances the temperature independent paramagnetism as well as the observed ferromagnetic contribution to the total magnetization.
