Linear, quadratic and cubic invariants of orthotropic elastic materials
Generalized Hooke's laws in terms of engineering elastic constants and in terms of components of the fourth order compliance tensor are compared. The engineering elastic constants are expressed in terms of tensorial components and vice versa. The elastic constants are classified in five different groups. Among the common shearing moduli of elasticity new coupled shearing moduli of elasticity are introduced. Some useful invariants of the compliance tensor are derived and expressed in terms of engineering constants. The invariants are linear, quadratic and cubic. They can be used in analyzing orthotropic laminated structures.
