Physical-mechanical properties of cotton spun, plied and cabled yarn

Commercial cotton spun yarns 25tex ×1 and 36tex ×1 from cops and cleared, plied yarns 25tex ×2 and 36tex ×2 (from cones), as well as cabled yarns 25tex ×2×3 (from cones, mercerised, bleached) and 36tex ×2×4 (mercerised, bleached) were analysed. The following yarn parameters were investigated: count, twist number, unevenness, faults and tensile properties. Unevenness and number of thin and thick places of cleared yarns slightly decreases. Number of neps after clearing was slightly decreased with both spun yarns. Plied yarns have lower unevenness and lower number of faults. After clearing it was obtained slightly lower braking tenacity, breaking elongation as well as work done to rupture. It was obtained higher breaking tenacity of plied yarns with respect to spun yarns. The further decrease of unevenness, as it foreseen, was obtained by both cabled yarns.
