Sociological aspects of rave culture in Croatia
Development of various youth subcultures in Croatia was not followed by a similar development in sociological research. Croatian sociology of youth subcultures started with research on graffiti and footbal hooliganism in the 80-es. Rave culture exploded in Croatia in 1994-96, emphasizing a whole-night ritual, non-verbal communication, and carnivalistic atmosphere. Althought a new tribe had its colors and symbols, rave (sub)culture did not insist on any particular image ; tolerance to different ways of expression was very high. The article describes different clubs (Aquarius, Mungos, Space Aggressor) and their distinct life, characterized also by one common fact - the absence of violence.
