Sythesis and Characterization of Carbonyl Complexes of the Group VI Metals with a Macrocyclic Tetraamine Ligand
A derivate of 1, 4, 8, 11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (TA) bearing two pairs of-CH_2P(C_6H_5)_2 groups on the opposite sides of the TA ring, 1, 4, 8, 11-tetrakis(methydiphenylphosphino)-1, 4, 8, 11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (TPTA), is very interesting, potentialy octadentate ligand. In regard to the fact that the metal carbonyl chemistry with TA or its derivatives were lacking until very recently and as a continuation of our work on metal carbonyl chemistry we have undertaken a detailed study of the reaction of molybdenum, tungsten and chromium hexacarbonyls with TPTA. Under gentle reflux conditions the ligand reacts in the appropriate ratio with metal hexacarbonyls in deoxygenated dry alcohol to give crystalline orange-yellow solids of the formula [M(CO)_4]_2TPTA (M = Mo, W, Cr). The new complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV/visible and ^1H, ^13C and ^31P NMR spectroscopy, conductivity and magnetic measurements data. The data available indicate that the TPTA ligand does not incorporate metal into the macrocyclic ring. Each metal atom in these binuclear species is coordinated by two phosphorus atoms from the pendant methydiphenylphosphino groups and by four carbonyls in cis octahedral arrangement.
