Study of the Structure of Thermoplastic Polyurethane Elastomers/Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene Blends
Blends of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU)with acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS) were prepared in the melt. The structural as well as thermal characteristics were investigated. The interaction between TPU and ABS at 75/25 TPU/ABS composition propagates further separation of the hard and soft segments which enables a relatively great chain mobility in TPU-rich phase and makes the separation process possible. Annealed TPU/ABS blends contain slightly more crystalline phase than unannealed samples. The DSC measurements proved the immiscibility of TPU/ABS blends, while SEM micrographs revealed fine dispersions in matrix phase.
