Influence of environmental conditions on adhesive joint failure
The ageing of adhesive joints on the basis of polychloprene was investigated by different methods for mechanical and structural characterizations of aged adhesive films. The influence of degradation conditionscause adhesive joint failure to occur when polychloroprene with leather and styrene-butadiene elastomer as adherends were used. Ultravbiolet irradiation destroyed crystallinity of polychloroprene in adhesive composition completely. Terpenephenolic resin was found to act as stabilizing agent. Air moisture and temperature should be regarded as environmental factors of minor importance in the ageing processes of polychloroprene-based adhesive joint.
