Carbonyl and halocarbonyl complexes of molybdenum and tungsten with oxygen donor ligands
Halogen oxidation of trisubstituted carbonyl complexes of molybdenum(0) and tungsten(0) containing bis[(diphenylphosphinyl)methyl]phenylphosphine oxide (RPPh) and methylenebis[diphenylphosphine oxide] (MDPO) under controlled conditions afforded diamagnetic, seven-coordinate compounds: [M(CO)_3(RPPh)X_2] and [M(CO)_3(MDPO)X_2], where M = Mo, W and X = Br, I. The reaction of molybdenum and tungsten hexacarbonyls with bis[(diphenylphosphinyl)methyl]ethyl phosphinate (RPOEt) was also investigated. Complexes of the type cis-[M(CO)_4(RPOEt)] were isolated, which by treating with iodine released one molecule of carbon monoxide to give metal(II) derivatives, [M(CO)_3(RPOEt)I_2].
