Interaction of Pyrene-3-sulfonate with Lipid Monolayers
Adsorption of sodium pyrene-3-sulphonate (NaPyS) at different model interfaces, namely at the air/solution and lipid monolayer/solution interface, the mercury electrode/solution interface and lipid coated electrode has been studied by fluorescence and reflection spectroscopy, surface pressure measurements and electrochemical methods. A stronger adsorption of NaPyS at the mercury/solution interface than at the air/solution interface was observed. Further PyS- interacts with dioctadecyl-dimethyl-ammonium bromide (DOMA) monolayers at the air/water interface due to the coulombic interaction with the positively charged head groups, while no interaction with DPPC monolayers was noticed. However, NaPyS from solution influenced both monolayers which were transferred from the air/water interface to the mercury surface by enhancing the transport of cadmium ions across the film.
