DIESEL UNIT INJECTOR SYSTEM & UNIT PUMP SYSTEM
In the diesel-engine sector, tremendous advances have been made in the past few years thanks to the ongoing developments in fuel-injection technology. The Unit Injector System (UIS) and the Unit Pump System are among the most significant innovations in this field. They inject precisely the right amount of fuel individually into each cylinder, at very high pressure, and at exactly the right moment in time. This results in considerably more efficient combustion than in the case with conventional injection systems. This, in turn, equates to higher output, less fuel consumption and lower levels of noise and exhaust gas emissions. The Unit Injector System (UIS) combines the injection pump and the injection nozzle in a single assembly (Unit Injector). The Unit Injector combines a high pressure pump and nozzle with a solenoid valve to form compact assembly. As a result high-pressure lines are no longer necessary and injection can be controlled by the integrated and extremely precise solenoid valve at pressures of up to 2000 bar. Each cylinder has a unit injector fitted between the valves in the cylinder head. The unit injector is used in both passenger cars and commercial vehicles. This article also deals with injector construction, functional principle, features and consumer benefits of unit injector based engines.
