Influence of preheating and annealing to the weldability of grey casting iron
Grey cast iron may be subjected to cold and hot welding procedure. Its weldability is rather problematic, both due to its very low elongation capability and also due to production of a very hard structure within the heat affected zone of welded joint. During the experimental process the surfacing of cast grey iron samples has been performed by SMAW welding method with different types of electrodes, with or without preheating. Upon completion of welding the samples have been stress relieving heat treated. The influence of preheating and stress relieving heat treatment temperature range has been researched by testing mechanical properties and structural analyse.
