Dystocia in bitches: a retrospective study od 350 cases in the 1989-1999 period at the Clinic of Obstetrics and Reproduction
A total of 350 cases of dystocia in bitches were studied during the period 1989-1999 at the Clinic of Obstetrics and Reproduction, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Zagreb. Dystocia was of maternal origin in 89.1% of cases, mainly due to primariy and secondary uterine inertia, insufficiently developed of deformed pelvis, torsion and rupture of pregnant uterus and abdominal hernia. Dystocia of foetal origin (10.9%) resulted in malpresentation and malorinetation, relatively and absolutely oversized foetuses, as well as malformation and dead pups.
