ANTI-TUMOUR EFFECT OF LOCAL HYPERTHERMIA AND OK-432 (PICIBANIL) TREATMENT
We have studied the anti-tumour effect of inactivated and lyophilized preparation of low-virulence strain SU of Streptococcus pyogenes (group A) (OK-432, Picibanil). Neither intraperitoneal, or intravenous systemic administration of OK-432 combined with local hyperthermia had any effect on tumour growth. However, the local administration of OK-432 enhanced the response of murine tumor to elevated temperatures . In addition, the local administration of OK-432 alone (without hyperthermia) did not affect tumour growth. The thermal enhancement ratio was completely eliminated by administration anti-(asialo GM1) globulin indicating the NK cell activity was responsible for an anti-tumour effect. This study suggest that the OK-432 enhanced thermal response of murine tumour only when both, OK-432 and heat, were given to the tumor simultaneously.
