Sažetak
The kinetics of the appearance of direct (E) or induced (EA and EAC) rosettes in the spleens of mice inoculated with lymphoid and myeloid leukemias were followed under the assumption that leukemic infiltration of the spleens would result in progressive increase of rosette forming cells if the malignant cells possessed appropriate receptors. The count of the cells with SRBC receptors was low and did not change materially during the course of leukemia growth. Cells forming induced rosettes (iRFC) accumulated in the spleens of mice with leukemia, but the time pattern differed in lymphoid leukemia from that in myeloid leukemia. Lymphoid leukemia caused the number of iRFC to increase by 50% as early as 2 days after inoculation. This was followed by a gradual return of EAC rosettes to normal values, whereas the EA rosettes remained essentially constant until the animals died. The decline of EAC rosettes was essentially due to the disappearance of lymphoid EAC rosettes from the spleens. Myeloid leukemia caused a progressive increase of rosettes in the spleens that accompanied the growth of malignant cells and reached a maximum (3 times the normal value) 7 days after the inoculation. In the terminal stages of the disease the number of rosettes decreased precipitously. It seems, therefore, that the malignant cells of these 2 leukemias do not possess receptors for induced rosette formation. Tmeporary increase of iRFC could be attributed to accumulation of normal cells participating in an abortive immune response against leukemia.
