Image resolution - an important factor of web design
Map design depends on several factors. They are influenced by map output media, paper or a screen. The kind of a map, a topographic or thematic map, as well as a map scale are some of the input design factors. A visualisation process encompasses perceptive abilities of a user dependant on the output presentation medium. Map design corresponds with a visualisation process only for a conventional, that is, paper map. The design process for digital maps is wider than the visualisation process itself because the output media - screen and computer aid enable making of different multimedia products, whereby a map is only a part of such system. These products can be on CD-s, e.g. electronic atlas or web products connected with network Internet, e.g. interactive, clickable maps, on-line atlases and on-line maps, as well as products on the wireless Internet, e.g. location based services (LBS). This paper deals with a mutual relationship between a screen resolution and image resolution, which is particularly important for web design. The inappropriateness of the term normal screen resolution which is being used in the literature will also be explained.
