World-Renowned Contemporary Croatian Bridges
The paper gives an overview of the most important characteristics of some exceptional new Croatian bridges. The bridge over Rijeka Dubrovačka is unique by its asymmetrical layout and the combination of two structures: concrete beam and cable-stayed structure over the same span. Maslenica and Krka arch bridges belong to the group of very large concrete arches. Both of them have a wide superstructure supported on a much narrower arch, which makes them quite unique among similar bridges. Their design has been strongly influenced by durability demands, since older bridges near the sea did not perform well. While Maslenica bridge has a superstructure made of precast prestressed girders interconnected by slab cast in situ, Krka bridge has much lighter composite superstructure. Finally, Domovinski bridge in Zagreb is presented as the first extradosed bridge in our country, and one among few in the world.
