PARKS ON MEDALS The author has presented one coin and several medals from the numismatic collection of the Zagreb Archaeological Museum. All these medals have something in common: a picture of a park or some of its elements, such as balustrades, fountains, flower-beds etc. One of the first symbol which could be understood as a park can be found on the reverse of many silverlings, struck in Apollonia and Dyrrhachium from the 3rd to 1st c. A.D. (fig 1). One Renaissance medal of Dinko Ranjina (Ragnina ; *1546+1607) of Dubrovnik, is of particular interest, not only as a rare portrait ofa Croat, but because of the two cypress trees, as can be frequently seen along the Adriatic coast, on the reverse (fig 2).
