Perivoji na medaljama iz Numizmatičke zbirke Arheološkoga muzeja u Zagrebu. (Summary:) Parks on Medals

PARKS ON MEDALS The author has presented one coin and several medals from the numismatic collection of the Zagreb Archaeological Museum. All these medals have something in common: a picture of a park or some of its elements, such as balustrades, fountains, flower-beds etc. One of the first symbol which could be understood as a park can be found on the reverse of many silverlings, struck in Apollonia and Dyrrhachium from the 3rd to 1st c. A.D. (fig 1). One Renaissance medal of Dinko Ranjina (Ragnina ; *1546+1607) of Dubrovnik, is of particular interest, not only as a rare portrait ofa Croat, but because of the two cypress trees, as can be frequently seen along the Adriatic coast, on the reverse (fig 2). Further medals dating from the 17th to 20th centuries depicting various parks, either real, or invented can be seen on medals by: Gasporo Molo (fig 3), Alberto Hamerani (fig 4), Friedrich Kleinert (fig 5), Johann Franz Neidinger (figs 6, 7), anonymous master (fig 8), Georg Hautsch (fig 9), Ferdinand de Saint Urbain (fig 10), anonymous master (figs 11-13), Giovanni Ortolani (fig 14), Ermenegildo Hamerani (fig 15), Georg Wilhelm Vestner (fig 16), Heinrich Gube (fig 17), Josef Schön (fig 18), Allen and Moore of Birmingham (figs 19-20), Carl Radnitzky (fig 21), Anton Pittner (fig 33), anonymous master (fig 23), E. Oudiné and Alphée Dubois (fig 24) S. Kolle (fig 25) and Kruno Bošnjak (fig 26).
