Geotechnical problems in designing waste dumps on soft soils

A technical solution for discharging 25 milion m3 of waste material from steel.&not ; works onto soft soils is presented in this paper. Significant engineering geological, hydrogeo&not ; logical and geotechnical properties of the waste dump terrain are discribed. The model of the possible soil failure is selected on the basis of appropriate lnvestigation works. Detailed stability analyses of the discharged mass are made for this model. Finally, the waste dump (drainage system, waste dump height, discharging schedule etc.) was designed on the basis of results obtained through such analyses.
