Association of porcine intestinal F4 receptor with Escherichia coli- induced diarrheal disease and body weight gain in weaned pigs.
The objectives of this study were to: (1) determine whether intestinal F4 receptor is necessary for the induction of diarrheal disease by porcine enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) strain that produces F4 antigen, (2) establish the association of resistance to F4-mediated adhesion with the rate of weight gain, and (3) evaluate whether ColimixR vaccine in the diet affects the incidence of the disease and/or promotes growth in weaned pigs.
F4-receptor; ETEC; piglets; diarrhea; body weight gain
