Experimental pilot plant of the self-reproducing solar power station

The self-reproducing solar power station (SRSPS) – a big combined system which employs the solar electricity from itself for further production of the solar cells, sometimes called solar breeder, is the most promising means to support the global wish for energy revolution from fossil and nuclear to the renewable energy. By careful planning and reasonable continued capital investment, it will be possible to let such a system grow until the price of the solar cells, as well as the price of the electricity and hydrogen (fuel for the future), drops down drastically. Prospect for success highly depends on the site where the SRSPS is installed. Conditions for the good outcome are: suitable solar radiation, availability of large unusable land, good access, availability of raw materials, suitable sand, bauxite, scrap iron and salt, supporting infrastructure (harbor, road, railway, electric grid, hydroelectric power system and etc.) and inexpensive labor. Some of raw materials are practically always available, but if they exist on the spot, the transport cost can be diminished. Croatian coastal region has excellent conditions for installing an SRSPS because Croatia fulfils needed conditions extremely well, although the condition of inexpensive labor may be time limited. Nevertheless, the condition to build a pilot plant for SRSPS seems to be excellent. The advantage of Croatia is the availability of well-developed scientific and technical society, which are indispensable for this project. Already, two important elements exist. One is the successful production of the amorphous photocells in Split for the last 15 years and the other is the widely developed use of solar heat coming from the Department of technical thermodynamics and Energy on Faculty of Engineering, University of Rijeka.
