The Possible Contribution by Wind Power Plants to the Electric System of the Republic of Croatia
The Republic of Croatia is among the signatory countries of the Rio de Janerio 1992. Convention on protection of the Earth environment and atmosphere. To meet these commintments efforts are made to include in the future energy development a series of new small hydroelectric plants and consider a feasibility of wind farm operation. In this paper are analysed possible island and coastal locations on the Croatian part of the Adriatic sea, and the analysis is based on the expert system developed by a research group at the university of Split. Simulation of wind turbine generator (WTG) units operation is also carried out on optimal location and those WTG units of European production are selected that can provide economically acceptable generation of electrical energy. The results obtained in this study show that the contribution in electric yiels from the selected wind power plants could be 5.628% of the electricity generated by the Croatian power plants in 1995.
