Driver Machine Interface for Rail and Light Rail Applications

The paper deals with the Driver Machine Interface unit used in locomotives and light rail applications. It describes specific issues of the hardware platform, together with the specific requirements influenced by the harsh environment and gives possible implementation of the different operating systems along with the application software development environment. The integration of the unit into the vehicle by means of the communication interfaces is also pointed out. The possible industrial implementations are emphasized with existing applications in locomotives and tramcars.
