Possibility of tribological loss reduction by applying welded layers to the working parts of worm-presses in oil mills
The paper analyzes protective layers on the working parts of worm-presses of different producers, i.e. original foreign and domestic substitution parts. Chemical structure examinations, metallographic structure tests, wear effect recordings and hardness measurements have been carried out. The wear resistance of our own welded layers has been experimentally examined on extraction cage knives and the results have been compared with classically carburised knives used in oil mills. It has been found that the wear resistance of the deposited welded layers does not depend on surface hardness only but much more on micro-hardness and distribution of carbides in as tough a matrix as possible.
