Prediction of Bendability and Curvature in Genomic DNA
The dynamic ability of DNA molecule to bend is thought to be a crucial factor in processes such as gene regulation, packaging and DNA replication. DNA bendability and curvature propensity of shorter DNA segments can be estimated based on parameters derived from deoxy-ribonuclease I cleavage experiments using a sequence-dependent anisotropic bendability (SDAB) model of DNA. This is a simplified elastic rod model in which sequence-dependence, the anisotropy, and the helical symmetry of bending rigidity are explicitly considered. Here we outline the development of this model and present a set of tools for as well as preliminary results on predictive analysis of genomic DNA.
