Salmonella neck abscess: a case report
Sallmonela infections outside gastrointestinal tract are rare, but focal neck abscess of the head and neck are even uncommon. There are only l5 focal head and neck abscess reported in the world literature. The patient was a 53 – year-old female, with poor controled diabetes mellitus, with occasionally used glibenclamid tablets. She presentetd with right sided anterior mass and fever. The mass is first noticed 10 days prior to admission and became progressively larger and more tender. She used azitromicin, Cephalexin and medazol per os but neck mass became progressively larger and more tender. She denied any previous GI, lymphadenopaty disease or toothache. A CT scan was performed, and after erruption approximately 5 ml of pus was obtained and cultured. Pus cultures were positive after 24 hours for salmonella enteritidis. No other organisms were recovered. Sallmonella was sensitive to amoxicillin+clavulonat and gentamicin, and the therapy with this agents was begun, with parenteral insuline. She was discharged 4 weeks after , without classical surgery proceeding. Neck wound was completely healed.
