Psychotherapy in the era of neuroscience

During the 1990s, the Decade of Brain, many studies in the field of neuroscience have led to significant discoveries that explain the biological correlates of mental functioning. Novel methods of neuroimaging enable the neurobiological processes to be investigated in human models, whereas molecular neurobiological studies as the other arm of neuroscience investigate the impact of the genes and proteins on the behavior and psychic phenomena. Although psychotherapy and neuroscience cover formally separate fields, there is ever more evidence for their close and mutual relationship.
