Sažetak
Average grain size determination for aluminum alloys is highlighted. Specialized systems for processing and analysis of metallographic images are developed according to the specific needs of industry and research and scientific institutions. Manual, semi-automated and automated methods are introduced. Two specialized softwares for grain size analysis in micro- and macro domains are tested on as-cast aluminum alloys. Selected examples are analysed and some advantages and limitations are noted, along with applicability to as-cast aluminum alloys. In order to optimize image quality some important factors in metallographic preparation and image sampling are investigated.
