METRIC PROPERTIES OF THE GENERAL ATTITUDE TOWARD DIETING SCALE IN A SAMPLE OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

The General attitude toward dieting scale (SOD, Bosnar and Ambrosi-Randić, 2004.) was constructed with regard to the results of university student samples, showing sufficient metric characteristics with reliability estimations exceeding 0.85. To check the adequacy of the instrument for use on younger subjects, the research was done on a sample of adolescents. The 37-items version of SOD was applied on a sample of 327 female, final year, Nature Science High School students. The results show that scale does have well metric properties on the adolescent sample as well as the university student samples. First eigen value of items correlation matrix is 8.89899, which is 24.05 percents of total variance. Cronbach alpha coefficient is .905, with average inter-item correlation r = 0.208. The total result, defined as sum of item results, ranges from 40 to 142, with mean M = 84.99 and standard deviation 21.007. Regarding Kolmogorov – Smirnoff test, the distribution of total result does not differ significantly from expected normal (d = 0.07031, p = 0.10). The results of metric characteristics analysis of SOD show that instrument is appropriate for use on female adolescents
