NUMERICAL COMPUTATION OF SHIP’ S SHAFT GENERATOR CHARACTERISTICS
Numerical calculation of no-load and full load characteristics of low-speed ship’ s generator that is inserted in the shafting (between the main propulsion engine and propeller) is presented in this paper. Generator has salient poles with following data: power 875 kVA, voltage 400V, current 1 263 A and speed 250 rpm. It is necessary to analyse the electromagnetic state in such a generator numerically due to its specific design. All of the relevant characteristics of the generator are then determined on the basis of the numerical analysis. We used the programming package MagNet 6.16 that is based upon the finite element method to determine: 1. Excitation current at no-load conditions, 2. Waveforms of phase and line voltage at no-load conditions, 3. Excitation current at the full load and waveforms of voltage and current, 4. Excitation current at the full load and cosφ = 0, and waveforms of voltage and current.
