Onomastics as an “ interdisciplinary” science: between theory and reality
The awareness of the importance of close ties between onomastic studies and other disciplines, such as literature, history, social anthropology, psychology, demography, geography etc. is gradually growing within the scientific community. However, in reality, interdisciplinary research directed towards the analysis of proper names are still few and difficult to realize, partly due to different objectives and methodological approaches, but also due to the lack of cooperation between relevant scientific institutions and universities on a local and international level. Finally, another important reason is an inertness of scholars themselves who, on one hand acknowledge onomastics as an interdisciplinary science, but on the other hand they keep studying it within the usual frameworks. After presenting a synthesis of various models of interdisciplinary research accomplished in recent years, this contribution will propose different possible grounds for new attempts that have as their objective meeting-grounds of different disciplines.
