Response to Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Purpura Fulminans
When describing our 2 cases of purpura fulminans treated with hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO), 1 we considered criteria for the diagnosis of purpura fulminans originally set by Hjort et al 2 in 1964. His definition does not include consequences of meningococcal disease. Certain confusion arises from time to time, because some authors have abandoned this definition and, under the diagnosis of purpura fulminans, also include cases of severe purpura occurring in meningococcemia and other forms of sepsis.3-6 It is obvious that doctors Tilelli and Farrell cited data for meningococcal disease.
