Finite Element Simulation on Three-phase Fault of Synchronous Generator in D and Q Axis

An application of the two-dimensional, non-linear, time stepping finite element technique to the simulation of short-circuits in D and Q axis of the synchronous generator is presented. To simulate rotor motion in the forward direction stator phase bands are moved backwards. The computed results of the magnetic vector potential, and the current waveforms are shown. D-axis parameters are extracted from envelope of phase current. For Q-axis, sudden short-circuit phase currents waveforms distortion does not permit to use the same procedure as for D-axis.
