Weather influence on stroke occurence and other neurological emergences
We respectively analysed data of all patients examined at emergency room at Neurology Department during 3 years period (January 2001-December 2003). We compared frequency of visits at emergency room (and stroke admissions) and weather conditions. Results: We defined that 23 or more visits a day is high frequency of cisits at our Neurology department. Six or more stroke admissions a day was defined as high frequency stroke admission. The highest frequency of emergency visits and stroke admissions occurred at days with signiificant and rapid air pressure changes (p<0.05).Incidence of ichemic stroke was higher on days with rapid temperature increase and air pressure drop (p<0.05). Patients with all other types of vascular conditions (syncope, TIA and VB syndromes) also more frequently asked for help at days with rapid fall in air pressure. Conclusion: Ischemic stroke was significantly associated with rapid weather changes, especially air pressure.
