The relation between job satisfaction and certain characteristics of employees
Purpose of this study was to examine the relation between general job satisfaction and certain characteristics of Croatian employees. Participants were N=220 employees employed in different working environments in order to the Holland's RIASEC typology. The results show that job satisfaction is in weak and positive relation to age of employees, years of service, years of service in present organisation, and salary. There is no significant relation to education level of employees, gender, and days of absentees from work in last year. The overall prediction of job satisfaction based on these measures does not exceed 9% of explained variance. In addition we checked possible difference in job satisfaction between groups based on RIASEC types of working environments and groups based on types of employee's interests - measured by Croatian version of Holland's SDS (USPI). No difference in job satisfaction was found in both group comparisons. We concluded that general job satisfaction cold not be explained by the measured working and demographic characteristics of employees. It seems that attempts to clarify job satisfaction should be directed in exploration of more specific job related attitudes.
