Awards in the world of children's literature
The thesis lists the most prominent awards in the world of children’ s literature and their history, particularly in the English-speaking world. The practice goes back to 1922, when one of the oldest and most prestigious children's literature awards, The John Newbery Medal, was founded in the USA. The Caldecott Medal followed in 1937, and then, in the United Kingdom, The Carnegie Medal (1936) and The Kate Greenaway Medal (1955). The Andersen Medal joined them in 1956. The implications of the awards for the choice of literature for an EFL class is considered, and teaching activities are suggested for classes with young learners.
