The origin of sediments surrounding Jabuka Islet nad Jabuka Shoal
Recent sediments sampled around Jabuka Islet and Jabuka Shoal are determined as poorly sorted gravelly sands with mud share of 5% and carbonate (mostly aragonite and Mg-calcite) share greater than 80%. Without the terrigenous carbonate source near the ivestigated area and with sampling depths below wave base, the solely skeletal origin for carbonate material could be assumed. Igneous rocks of Jabuka Islet and Jabuka Shoal are partly source for those sediments, while small share of non-carbonate material in sediments (less than 20%) indicates their high resistance to erosion. Adversely to low mud share, prevailing hyaline foraminifera indicate low-energy environment. Therefore, the analyzed recent prevalently coarse bioclastic detritus were deposited below wave base.
