Sažetak
The paper outlines the results of research on introduction foreign languages in the first grade of Croatian state schools. The research questions focused on the following: selection of foreign languages, teachers’ qualifications and experience, teaching materials, problems and their possible solutions, and the role of teacher training institutions in this context. In the analysis of results, some of the current methodological principles in teaching young learners and the way they are implemented in Croatian classrooms have been compared.
