A study of the mercerized and non-mercerized yarn and knitted fabric properties
Investigation was carried out on mercerized and non-mercerized cotton ply yarns that have the same count – 50 tex x 2 and the same number of twists – 330 t/m. Breaking force and breaking elongation of yarns were measured before knitting, on the samples from the package and after the process of knitting, on the samples that were unknitted from the fabric. The results of knitted fabric breaking force measurement point out the fact that the strength of fabrics knitted from mercerized yarn is much higher and even increases by the increase of input tension.
