Computation Coupled Electromagnetic-Thermal Fields on the Generator Armored Busbar System

Aluminium made armor is constructed in generator busbar system to provide mechanical protection and reduce electromagnetic fields in surroudings and decrease electromagnetic forces between conductors too. Such aluminium armor are exposed to the magnetic field procuced by the busbars carrying large currents and as a result, eddy current power losses are induced inside the aluminium armor. The temperature distribution in the system must include effect of busbar losses and eddy current losses induced in aluminium armor. The most standard and common approach to solve such problems is the finite element method (FEM). This paper presents computation coupled electromagnetic-thermal fields on the generator armored busbar system using the finite element formulations. A two-dimensional model is used for this analysis. The numerical results of this method are good and comparison with test data are presented.
