Genetic effects of cultured shellfish populations on ecosystem
As shellfish cultured production comes to play an important role in aquaculture there is risk of potentially adverse effect of genetic interactions between wild and cultured individuals. Direct effect (intra- and interspecific hybridisation) and competitive exclusion of native individuals by cultured population may have indirect effect through the reduction of population size.To prevent the effect of genetic interactions between culured and natural populations, escape prevention and recovery and maintenance of genetic variability in cultured population are among the most important. In experiment the genetic structure and degrees of genetic differentiation between natural and cultured Ostrea edulis populations were analyzed.
