Electromagnetic Transients Modeling in Power Systems Using the Finite Element Technique
This paper presents a new method when modeling electromagnetic transients in a power system in the time domain, based on the finite element technique. Each element of the power system under consideration, such as synchronous generator, transformer, transmission line, circuit breaker, etc. is modeled as a finite element. In a case of a large power system the size of the problem can be effectively reduced using special finite element obtained by Thevenin equivalent. With a such approach, elegant modeling of a transient behavior of power system can be done.
