Phenolic acid as corrosion inhibitor of Al-2.5Mg alloy in non-stationary conditions
The polarisation techniques were used to determine the mechanism and inhibition efficiency of gentisic acid as corrosion inhibitor of the Al-2.5Mg alloy in a deaerated 0.5 mol dm-3 NaCl solution, at different speeds of the rotating disk electrode (0 min-1, 150 min-1 and 2000 min-1) and at different temperatures (20 C, 30 C and 40 C). Gentisic acid is a phenolic acid whose presence has been established in the plant material. The results obtained allow the conclusion that the increase of the electrode rotation rate and temperature increases the corrosion of the alloy investigated in the uninhibited NaCl solution. The addition of gentisic acid decreases Al-2.5Mg corrosion at all rotation rates and temperatures investigated, but the inhibition efficiency decreases with increasing rotation rate and temperature.
