Electrokinetic properties of textile fabrics
This paper reports electrokinetic phenomena concerning the properties of textile fabrics crucial for dyeing and finishing processes. These interface phenomena have influence on adsorption of surfactants, optical brighteners, dyes and finishing agents due to interaction forces between fibre surface and solutions. Zeta potential, Isoelectric Point, Point of Zero Charge and specific quantity of surface charge of standard adjacent fabrics for use in BS EN ISO 105 F02 - Cotton (Limbric), Wool, Viscose Rayon, Polyamide 6.6 (Nylon f03), Polyester (Terylene) and Acrylic has been determined using the special techniques. Electrokinetic potential was measured by streaming potential/current method using a Brookhaven-Paar electrokinetic analyzer (EKA), with a rectangular cell designed for textile fabrics. Specific quantity of surface charge was calculated after back-titration method, applying Mütek's Partical Charge Detector (PCD 02).
